How Do I Meet People?

Our church is not a place for spectators. It is a place for team members! Whether you’re a family of five, a ninety-five year old retiree, a busy single-mom or dad, or you’re like many of our congregation during the summer and just trying to stay sane, we want you to be a part of our vibrant church community. Below are groups to get involved with. And if you’re looking for ways to serve in connection to each of these ministries, check out the Service tab above.
greetings
Life can get complicated when you cross that nebulous threshold into middle school.  There are complicated decisions, bigger stakes, serious relationships and a whole lot of decisions.  Our youth group, Hi5, provides a welcoming atmosphere for students 7th – 12th grade to gather, relax, experience God’s loving support, and talk honestly about changing lives. For students in 5th & 6th grades, we have Surge.
Children can have lots of energy and our incredible volunteers at OBUMC can keep up!  Led by our Executive Minister, Emily Kincade, volunteers guide Sunday school classes, children’s church, children’s choir and Wednesday Bible Clubs each week! Summers include monthly family fun activities as well as an action packed Vacation Bible School experience.
United Methodist Women
Women love coming together in fellowship and UMW gives women a chance to visit and make new friends while serving our church, community and global mission needs. If we don’t have a mission project you enjoy, start one! Talk to us about your ideas!
United Methodist Men
The UMM enjoy their fellowship and growing closer in their walk with God. Check out the Service tab above to find ways to join together with other UMM for fellowship and continued spiritual growth.
After high school and before you’re ready to join the United Methodist Men or Women, what do you do? Our church family is continually growing. Our group of young adults continues to grow, too. Get involved! Let our church leadership know what kind of activities you’re interested in. Or step up and take a leadership role in this area!
Our Bible Studies are led by staff and volunteers who enjoy studying and growing in their faith.  Watch the website or church emails for new opportunities for spiritual growth.  If you have a study you would love to do, talk to the church staff and get started! Facilitating a Bible Study can be a great growth opportunity!

The Gist…
“OBUMC is here for you. We’re a community based church, not here to stand above the people living around us but to shine Christ’s light into it through our actions. We’re a member driven and evolving church, albeit sometimes at a slow pace. You’re never going to find a group of people more willing to love, accept, and encourage you. I grew up in this church and my life has changed a great deal over the past 15+ years. But the smiles on the faces of the congregation here never have. We live in an area of God’s creation blessed with the beauty around us and we know it! So come check out a service, meet some of the people, and let us make a new friend.”
